Prep First Aid Pack
on: March 13, 2013, 12:17

I'm a logger with a small crew so I know the value of a good First Aid kit. After putting it off for years, I've finally put together a "first class" pack that I think most Preppers should have of their own making. It's an often "over-looked" item of important prep.

I looked around for a period of time for a good way to transport my kit and settled upon a large backpack made by VooDoo model 15-9590 (available on line and some well stocked army-navy type stores). You need something to take your supplies to the patient.

Here is a list of most of the items I carry in my bag to cover most of the problems you may incounter. I only supply it to you as an example (you carry what you feel might be necessary). Most items I purchased on-line and some locally at drug stores or Walmart. Some items are prescription only and you'll have to "access" in your own creative ways ! Remember this is a first aid kit and not a drugstore that can be treated at home. Here goes:

Large amounts of various sized gauzes (most sterile)

ace bandages and vet-rap, tape and bandaids

Isreali bandages, tourniquet, triangular sling etc

burn coverings of various sizes

eye care kit with wash and covers

rolled splint for broken bones

Philadelphia style cervical collar

Baby wipes, alcohol, betadine, triple antibio ointment etc.

nitrile and non latex gloves (both sterile and non sterile)

hot and cold packs (instant), hand warmers, alumin. blanket

esphogeal airway tubes (many sizes)

chest seal (for sucking chest wounds)

baby birthing kit, large bed pads, nasal airway tubes

closure kit: various size sutures, lidocaine, steri strips

surgical instruments (approx 15 different types)

selection of various ointments, medicines, pain killers

stethoscope and blood pressure cuff

waterproof note pad and pencils to record the b/p above

LED flashlight, sharp pointed knife, headlight, q-tips

large irrigation syringe and small sterile ones w needles

cellox (much better than quick-clot) do your own research

All this fits into the back-pack and not much else ! Most importantly, get a couple books like advertised on this website on how to use the above stuff, and READ it !!

When someone is flopping on the ground is not the time to learn first aid. – Happy prepping
