Podcast 16-37 is a very good teaching tool. Thank you for all you do. It is easy to be lulled to sleep and give in to a false sense of security promoted by our current media and government. I just finished listening to Episode 16-37 which had JJS and his AmRRON talk at this expo. So much was covered that I was not aware of as I just recently joined the AmRRON Corps and have yet to set up my forum or other benefits. I heard so much in JJS’s speach that I too have encountered after over 20 years of emergency response both in the Ham Radio hobby as well as Fire/EMS. I walked away from ARES years ago due to Section Managers who wanted to appoint someone else as EC to my Parish (county). I also have a problem with their no firearms edict and some of the politics involved. I continue to serve as the elected RACES Officer for my Parish Local Planning Committee but we are completel seperate from ARES and have no affiliation with ARRL. In many places ARRL has managed to completely take over Emcom and replace RACES or combine their appointed people with RACES positions. NOT in my Parish. I work to keep our Auxillary group free of ARRL influance. I also gave up helping Red Cross after dealing with their stupidy after hurricane Katrina. Watching them send ham communications volunteers to a shelter where I had been doing Emcom and relaying Health and Welfare traffic to the local Emergnecy Operations Center where a ham there would replay messages to a local Red Cross Chapter volunteer. Except when Red Cross National came in and took over they wiped the slate clean and ignored traffice sent by our local liasons and volunteers. Our Parish Rec Cross person would call the Baton Rouge office only to find out that they no longer knew who she was or what she was doing. The National Red Cross people ignored everything we had been doing for 3 days before they arrived. Also, when it comes to Red Cross, they want to be the only recognised group in view. If your local club shows up you don’t wear your club or organization shirts or hats. You ID only as Red Cross. They want to brand everything under their control as Red Cross. You are no longer ARES or the ABC Ham Club. You are Red Cross drones from the moment you agree to assist them. And as JJS pointed out in his talk, Red Cross and ARRL ARES are all focused on working with government to herd citizens into shelters and keep them out of the way of government doing government stuff. We need organized groups such as AmRRON to be an alternative to these other groups. To bring the focus back on the individuals and the families, the tribes and the communities. That is why I joined AmRRON. That is why I hope to do more to support Radio Free Redoubt and the patriots and partisans across this nation who are trying to survive in spite of the efforts of the government and the various NGOs which serve it.
