Thank you Mr. Schmidt for saying something that desperately needs to be said. Yes, the majority of the church is failing to resist the works of the adversary in our society and government. However, as you pointed out, what I view with even greater concern is that so many who are resisting are doing so in a wrong spirit – a spirit of rebellion, anger and looking to themselves as the sovereigns instead of recognizing and submitting to the only true sovereign. I am concerned that if elements of the so called “liberty movement” ever come to an actual conflict with the government, the movement will not fare well. God wants to bless people with liberty, but He won’t have fellowship with the obstinate attitude of people who just want to be free to do whatever the heck they want.
I am also concerned that the Christian-conservative-right is mindlessly assuming itself to be right simply because it is in conflict with the liberal left. Old Testament Israel often found itself in conflict with the godless nations around them, yet suffered defeat because God was not with them as they had departed from Him and hadn’t realized it. God’s people had to first be awakened to their own departure from their God, then repent in their own hearts and return to a true and right knowledge of and obedience to their God. Even after that, God’s people still needed to stay put, humble themselves, seek their God, be re-taught the ways of their God, then wait for the word of the Lord to come to them and tell them when it was time to go out to battle and in what manner to go out to battle.
As I see it, the Christian-conservative-right is failing to do these things. We have lost touch with the true heart and character of our God, have substituted God’s true ways for something called “conservatism” as defined by talking-heads who toe the party line, and we presume to go out to battle at our own initiative, in our own way, at our own time, without waiting for “The Word of the Lord” to instruct us.
Though I am determined to love and care for the good of my fellow believers, I only find about 1% or less who are seeing matters through a Biblical worldview, understand the U.S. Constitution according to its original intent, are willing to stand up to and resist the works of the devil and who do all of this in a right spirit that God can honor.
