As we celebrate the anniversary of a nation that cast off the tyrannical bonds of an oppressive government, let’s not forget the things that man wrote on paper but are given to you by God. You are endowed with certain unalienable rights. The word unalienable comes from the Latin alienus, meaning “of or belonging to another.” This provides the basis for our word, with the prefix un- providing the turnaround “not,” and the suffix -able providing the idea of capability. Therefore, we get “not able to be denied.” The founders saw fit to declare that God grants you the gifts of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, (but not the attainment of it.) But neither this document nor the Constitution gives a government the power to grant these rights to anyone. These are God given. Governments are nothing more than men with the power of earthly punishment over other men.
Only God can grant you the miracle of life, man only has the power to kill it. Only God can give you the drive to be free, man only has the power to put you in chains. Only God gives you the perception, the intuition and the depth of feeling to seek out your own Happiness. Man only has the power to stifle, control and throttle the pursuit.
We as men, created in the image of God, also have the ability to leave one another alone, each to follow his own compass to his own destiny. This is a moral decision that can only be achieved by knowing other men are acting in an ethical manner.
The foundation of ethics is not written in the law of man. Man is fickle. His law changes because of his bias. Today a liked man is allowed “x”, tomorrow a disliked man is chained for the same thing. This is case law, man’s basis in governing other men. This greatly differs from the common law mentioned in the constitution. The common law is just that, common to all, common to nature, a blanket of rules extended from the Creator. A Creator Who, granted a fledgling nation, that was created in His name and in His common law, the power to become the most powerful and benevolent nation to ever grace the planet, at least until the 1950’s. The 40’s were the “greatest generation”. They grew up with a Christian moral compass. They earned what they got, and they lived with consequences to their actions. Hell, they sacrificed more on the altar of freedom during WWII than we, “the privileged” will ever understand.
In the 1950’s God was being eradicated from our schools. In the 1960’s God was being eradicated from our laws. In the 70’s God was being eradicated from our public lives. Today, you cannot stand on the sidewalk in front of the U.S. capital building and pray. A group of little girls that were praying for our country were chased into the street by a U.S. park ranger and told to, “stop praying or go to jail”. Today we argue over who is going to pay to kill a baby in utero. Not that it is wrong, but who will foot the bill! We have turned our backs on God either by direct influence or by quite complacency. Both actions have the same result. God is turning his back on us and we are slowly and inexorably sliding back into tyranny and we are clapping the chains that ungodly men have forged, onto one another. “God Bless America?” maybe at one time… But now more than ever the cry should be, “America! Bless God!
