As an alternative to the Wouxon or Bao Fengs take a look at these:

They’re more expensive that the Bao Feng.

Actually, that link takes you to a Tecsun Shortwave Receiver. Although it has SSB, it only receives in the Shortwave/HF bands, NOT UHF or VHF, which is what the Baofeng and Wouxun Radios transmit and receive on. So, even though it would be a great addition to your communications gear, it is not an “alternative” to a UHF/VHF transceiver. Only a complement to your commo setup. -JJS
