Hi,
This is Delta-01 and I would like to tell you about our exploratory trip to the redoubt (ID). We left our home many miles away the weekend before thanksgiving and made the long trip to Idaho. I managed to drive 17 hours the first day (ugh!) and 11 the next to arrive in ID. at 1430 hours. We made contact with a kind and generous redoubter (God bless them) who gave us the cliff-notes on the area. We spent the next few days looking at property with the aid of a laptop, 4g device and Trulia.com. With Trulia you can sort properties any way you like. Our property filters included (5+ acres, $price range, single family framed home, etc). We were able to look at 25 homes in 3 days and spent the last day fishing in one of the many rivers and lakes.
I have to say that Idaho, even in the rain, is an amazing place. I equate the splendor to Alaska with regards to the Coeur D’ Alene area. If you are sitting on the fence about moving spend a week up here like we did. I think you will see the value in moving after you make the trip.
I am going to post trip pictures of our stay and home searching. These are just a few of the pictures and places we looked at. Hope you enjoy them.

Are you thinking about moving to the American Redoubt? Check out the “Relocation Resources” we have posted! Hope to see you in the American Redoubt!
Delta-01,
Thanks for the nice pictures. We are planning a move to Idaho when possible.

Went through that property search routine not too many years ago and did a whole lot of looking on-line at property while learning the market in my area of interest. Did a lot of reading on various aspects of owning rural property. I was attracted to log homes initially, but learned about how much maintenance they require and how they don’t hold in the heat. Also, those high ceilings with the really big windows aren’t very efficient if you want to keep the heat inside. Electric baseboard heaters are inefficient and expensive to run, even though Idaho has some of the lowest electric rates in the country. Really deep wells are not great if you ever have to resort to backup means to pump your water, etc and so on… I’m pretty sure JJS has some real estate pals specializing in prepper properties who are already dialed into some of the pitfalls you will want to avoid. Might be worthwhile to spend some time with someone like that before you buy something that will turn into a heartache.
Good luck with your search. Have you looked around Orofino?
We live in North Idaho. Welcome, we need more like you (and a few less liberals – oh well).
Just a note. You will find the price of 5 acres, 20 acres and 50 acres all about the same. The 5 might sell for 10,000 per acre where the 50 might sell for 1500 an acre.
Each to his own of course, but after a while you might find 5 acres just wee bit cramped. Kind of hard to get real privacy, and the neighbors can still here you when you yell at your hubby (which he richly deserves).
Good luck

Thanks for the article. We are planning a trip like this in the spring, Lord willing. You take an RV or hit hotels?
I’m estatic that you’re starting the steps to move. It will be exciting to have you join us in the redoubt!! Be assured that you’re in my prayers, and I trust that the Lord will bless you richly!!
Delta-01, Real nice pics. It will be nice to have another likminder in our area. One of the pics is across the street from me. Email me at id.pakrat@gmail.com, so we can talk.
We came over the end of October for the Sustainable Living Expo, checked out a place that we thought we wanted off a Craigslist ad, stayed for a work day on Monday at my Company’s Spokane store, AND 30 days later we are living in the REDOUBT !!! We would STILL BE LIVING where we came from if we had not started putting STEPS to our PRAYERS !!! We believe that you can’t go ANYWHERE “PARKED”…..BUT, make sure it is COVERED in prayer if you believe that way, and if you don’t then maybe you should consider starting to…???
We hope that MANY MANY MORE of “US” will get here ASAP, we look forward to meeting you that do !! EVERY TIME we get in our car to go somewhere “WE THANK GOD” for the blessing of him opening doors and for us having ears to hear when he finally (in our eyes) said “GO”
We too, are PRAYING for our fellow PATRIOTS looking to get here, make steps at looking for the open door, prepare for it, and when GOD says “GO” ….30 whirlwind days later you can be living in the REDOUBT with the rest of us that were here already, or like us, that have moved here in recent years/months. A couple of months before this all happened to us, we started PACKING our house as if we were moving on the first of the next month, getting rid of JUNK we had acquired etc etc. If your not ready when you get the green light, you add to the stress of it all. Delta-01 has gone a step further and done a “scouting mission” kind of like what we did, …bet they will be here soon….
BLESSINGS ON ALL MY FELLOW PATRIOTS and DELTA-01 !!
Bravo, Delta-01! Congrats on what sounds like a successful exploratory trip to the AR and Idaho in particular. I too am trying to move and have been on several trips to find property. I even went so far as to hire a “certified retreat specialist” who turned out to be more interested in getting paid than helping. (Word to the wise – exercise caution when hiring these folks.) Finding those valuable tips that Major Payne mentions above can be quite the challenge. Good luck to you! Hopefully we will all be safe in the AR in the near future.
